Children’s uveitis is not the same as adults’. Under 16 accounts for about 5–10% and is often associated with juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Children’s symptoms can be hidden and easy to miss, and severe symptoms are more likely to leave complications. Treatment must consider development and not use steroids long-term casually. Parents should take children to check early if they find eye abnormalities. I had the disease since I was a child, so I know how parents worry; that feeling of both heartache and helplessness is real.
