
Non-infectious causes are often the immune system attacking the body itself, or metabolic problems leading to more reactive oxygen species, causing tissue damage. Genetic factors like HLA-B27 also make some types of uveitis more likely. The mechanisms of non-infectious types are more complex and often require immunosuppressants or biological agents for control.
Knowing the udnerlying cause is “the body attacking itself” makes the heart a little heavy—feeling like there is a fight inside your body—but this also taught me to live with the disease and that finding the right doctor is more important than anything.
